Oura Ring Review: Pros, Cons and Is It Worth It?

Oura brings the rings to you through their own marketing with a lot of high-quality content, but are they worth it?

The “oura ring 3 review” is a product that has been on the market for a while now. It’s designed to help you track your sleep patterns and improve your health.

Pros

  • Wearable at all times of the day and night
  • For more accurate statistics, it syncs with Apple Health and Google Fit.
  • The battery lasts for 7 days.
  • Waterproof and able to withstand harsh temperatures
Cons

  • During some forms of activity, it might become bulky.
  • The ring’s material is rigid and does not adapt to variations in finger size.
  • Data not immediately accessible on a device, such as a watch
  • It must be synchronized with another device since it does not monitor the kind of exercise.

What Is Oura Ring and What Does It Mean?

The Oura Ring is a fitness and lifestyle tracker that is worn around your finger rather than your wrist, as is the case with most other health monitoring gadgets.

When you first visit the Oura Ring website, the description of the ring is vague.

The site emphasizes “inspiration,” “feeling totally alive,” and assisting people in realizing their “full potential.” These appear to me to be pretty hazy objectives.

This “branding” may explain why it has attracted the attention of a slew of celebrities, from Twitter’s Jack Dorsey to Prince Harry.

The Oura Ring’s purpose is to give you with constant access to precise health information and individualized advice based on that information.

The Benefits and How It Works

The ring monitors a few key health indicators to assist you in improving your overall well-being. The following are the data points:

  • Monitoring your sleep is a good idea. The ring tracks sleep phases throughout night and gives you a customised sleep score in the morning. It also gives suggestions for the best time to go to bed and other strategies to sleep well.
  • Temperature and heart rate Throughout the day, the ring monitors your resting heart rate and body temperature.
  • This is a dynamic activity. The ring counts your steps, tracks your inactivity, and alerts you when it’s time to push yourself throughout your exercise.
  • Score of preparedness. The ring gathers information about your sleep, activities, and lifestyle choices in order to give you a score that indicates how “ready” you are for the day.
  • Long-term patterns The app lets you track daily, weekly, and monthly trends to see how different lifestyle choices affect your overall health.

The ring is worn on your preferred finger 24 hours a day. On a scale of 1 to 100, it gives you three daily scores: sleep, activity, and preparedness.

It also displays the many factors that influence this score. These enable you to keep track of how you’re doing on a daily basis.

The ring evaluates your baseline and begins to identify patterns after roughly two weeks of use.

One little ring has two infrared sensors, two body temperature sensors, an accelerometer, and a gyroscope.

The ring tracks your respiratory rate, resting heart rate, body temperature, and heart rate variability to collect the data it requires for the three scores (HRV).

The HRV is how the ring decides if you’re stressed or overtrained. When your HRV is low, it means you’re under a lot of stress, and you should relax or rest.

There is a meditation tool in the app called “Moment” that you may activate at any moment to help you de-stress.

You may also compare your heart rate, body temperature, and HRV before and after you meditate using the app.

You may also mark important life events in the app, such as eating a large meal, consuming alcohol, or other stressful situations, to observe how they affect your body and sleep.

Wearing the ring has the objective of allowing you to collect data over time so you can keep track of trends and daily routines that affect your rest and performance.

To get the most out of Oura, you’ll need to wear it for a few weeks so the ring can get a sense of your baseline and provide personalized suggestions.

Tracking Precision

A research indicated that Oura Ring could predict Covid-19 three days before symptom start with 90% accuracy during the Covid-19 pandemic.

As a result, the NBA, WNBA, and other major sports purchased rings for its players in the hopes that the temperature sensors might aid in the early detection of Covid-19.

While only a doctor can diagnose Covid-19, knowing when you’re feeling “off” may help you take healthy actions to strengthen your immune system and fight sickness.

Oura has two studies on the accuracy of their product that are funded by the firm. One of the research looked at the sleep tracking function’s accuracy.

The Oura Ring was determined to be 66 percent accurate when compared to sleep lab equipment in the research. This complies with the FDA’s standards for sleep monitoring device accuracy.

When compared to an ECG, the heart rate and HRV values in the other research were 98–99 percent correct.

Overall, there is evidence to support the device’s accuracy in terms of the measurements it is supposed to make.

The Auro Ring app

Sleep efficiency, restfulness, and the length of various kinds of sleep are all tracked by the app’s sleep tracker. The score is based on a scale of 0 to 100. An activity tracker may help you keep track of your steps, calories, and general activity on a daily basis. You may use the readiness tracker to see whether you’re “ready” to face the day ahead or if you need to take a day off.

Price and Value for Money

The Oura Ring ranges in price from $299 to $399, depending on the ring’s polish.

You may also pick between two ring shapes: one with a pointed top and the other with a flat top. The price is unaffected by the form.

If you’re willing to pay a lot of money, you can purchase one with diamonds for $999. However, this more costly alternative offers no new capabilities.

The price of the ring is comparable to other similar health-tracking gadgets, such as the Fitbit Sense, which costs $299 and detects skin temperature, stress, and other factors.

The ring is rather easy to wear, particularly at night, as compared to other gadgets. Because most people prefer not to sleep with a watch on, the Oura Ring is an excellent choice for sleep tracking.

Overall, the Oura Ring is a decent value for the money when considering all of its features and comparing it to comparable items.

Wearability and Comfort

When you order the ring, you’ll get a “sizing kit” first. This is a package of comparable plastic rings that will help you figure out your ideal size.

Because your finger size fluctuates during the day, you should wear the false ring for 24 hours.

Because my finger appears to change sizes a lot, I ended up sizing up a little to adjust for wearing it all the time.

Depending on the time of day, it might seem a little loose, so I’ll switch it on a different finger. I wish they had 1/2 sizes available.

The ring isn’t too heavy. It is lighter than most conventional rings, weighing 4–6 grams depending on the size required.

This is amazing given how many various functions it has for measuring your temperature, heart rate, and other vital signs.

My greatest issue with the ring is that it is uncomfortable to wear throughout my exercises.

I like lifting weights, and the thickness of the ring produced a large blister on my hand when I gripped the weight.

This was incredibly unpleasant, so I removed it throughout my exercises. I discovered while writing this review that you aren’t intended to wear it when lifting weights.

I would suggest a watch instead of a fitness tracker if you need to keep track of your exercises.

My Apple watch collects physical activity data and links it to the Oura ring app since I haven’t been wearing it to work out.

My exercises are logged in the Oura Ring app, and my preparedness and activity ratings may be analyzed as a result.

It’s great that it’s waterproof up to 100 meters. Because of the titanium with a diamond-like coating on the ring, it may even be worn while swimming.

I’ve worn it swimming a few times and it doesn’t appear to affect the ring’s functionality. I don’t have to take it off to wash my hands or do the dishes, either.

The battery has a week’s worth of life. It takes 20–80 minutes to completely charge. I discovered that charging it on the charger while sitting at my desk was sufficient to keep it charged.

My First Impressions of the Oura Ring

For the last six months, I’ve been wearing the Oura Ring. The purpose of wearing the ring is to assess my sleep and workout recovery. I’ve been battling with insomnia on and off, and I’d want to sleep better.

Oura Ring has been warning me for a long time that I don’t get enough deep sleep — on most nights, I receive fewer than 20 minutes of deep sleep.

I’m not sure whether this is correct, since I usually feel rejuvenated when I wake up. I believe that if you don’t get enough deep sleep, you will eventually experience the consequences.

Throughout the day, I often snooze. The overwhelming majority of naps are recorded as deep sleep by the ring.

This makes me wonder what the difference is between naps and nocturnal sleep, and why the ring doesn’t detect deep slumber throughout the night.

The ring doesn’t tell me anything I don’t already know about sleep and preparation. I can tell if I’ve had a horrible night’s sleep physically.

Oura frequently believes I slept better than I did. It doesn’t appear to be able to tell the difference between tossing and turning and sleeping.

As a result, I’ve decided to disregard some of its “readiness” suggestions. For example, I can sense whether I’m “ready” to go out harder or do more throughout the day – even though the ring isn’t always correct.

The Oura also suggests that I go to bed between 8:15 and 9:15 p.m. I generally get to bed around 9–9:30 p.m., but the ring felt that if I went to bed earlier, I would be more “ready” for the following day. That is, in my opinion, an excessively early bedtime.

Because of my sleeplessness, I don’t drink much alcohol these days, but when I do, the Oura can tell. A considerable increase in heart rate and body temperature will be tracked.

I just went on vacation and consumed alcohol on a regular basis. Because my heart rate and body temperature were so raised from the holiday drinking, it questioned if I was ill and needed to switch on the sick mode after day three.

I knew that alcohol had an effect on my sleep, but it was fascinating to observe how it affected my body. If you are a frequent drinker, I suppose this is something to think about.

The Oura Ring is said to be useful for monitoring hormonal changes in women’s cycles in several of the other reviews I read.

Heart rate, temperature, and respiration will alter during the month as a result of hormonal fluctuations, but I haven’t seen any variations.

How Does Oura Ring Measure Up to the Competition?

There are dozens of fitness trackers on the market, but only a few of them are unobtrusive rings.

A firm named Motiv used to make a ring like this, but it seems that they are no longer in business.

Ringly is another business that produces an activity tracker ring, but it doesn’t seem to measure sleep or other health indicators.

Although the Oura performs many of the same functions as other fitness trackers, you shouldn’t wear most of them while sleeping.

This, I believe, is what distinguishes Oura from other goods on the market.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I believe the Oura ring is a fascinating piece of technology for those who wish to “optimize” their health.

It may assist you in increasing your sleep, which is one of the most overlooked components of health.

It makes you more conscious of your sleep quality and how a few nights of poor sleep may have a significant influence on your health.

While it can link with other health gadgets, one of the major drawbacks is that it cannot be used during specific sorts of activities.

If you wish to lift weights, you’ll need a smartwatch or other fitness tracker.

Final Thoughts is Oura Ring is a stylish option for a health and wellness tracker. It can help provide a starting point for ways to improve your sleep, recovery, and overall health.

A Message from Our RD

The Oura Ring is a non-intrusive and accurate approach to learn about your body’s routines, which is particularly useful if you want to improve your sleep and recuperation.

However, even if you don’t have the Oura Ring, there are a few things you may do to improve your sleep:

  • Every day, go to bed and wake up at the same hour.
  • Before going to bed, dim the lights for at least 30 minutes.
  • 30 minutes of physical activity every day
  • Tobacco and alcohol should be avoided.
  • Caffeine should be used in moderation and before noon.
  • Take control of your tension.

Even if you don’t need a ring to inform you how rested you are, it may still help you make better health choices.
